Following the National Fire Ban, the risk level has now reduced and we are once again allowing fires at Tawd Vale.
If the Fire Severity Index increases, we will directly e-mail groups who are booked in with us to advise of any additional precaustions to take.
Fire prevention in hot weather
Whilst it has been great to have enjoyed some exceptionally hot weather this year, we have been e-mailing groups that are booked each week regarding taking precautions to prevent forest fires.
Currently, our Forest is exceptionally dry and you will no doubt have seen the devestation caused by forest fires both at home and abroad.
We also appreciate that sitting around a fire at night chatting is an integral part of camping and so we are asking that all campers consider their needs for a fire and take the precautions below:
- Firstly, do you need a fire? Not having one reduces the risks considerably.
- Whilst the risk is high, ALL fires should be in our fire barrels on stands above the ground. These can be borrowed FOC
- Before using a fire barrel, soak the ground as much as possible underneath and continue to do so as it starts to dry out.
- Have water barrels on standby to enable dousing any fire that spreads or gets too large.
- Don’t have a bonfire! Keep it as small as practical.
- Never leave the fire unattended, allow it to burn out completely and even then, consider damping down with water to prevent it re-kindling.
Currently we are not banning camp fires unless we update you otherwise, we are also still allowing cooking on fires. Please also take similar precautions if using stoves.
